Early Morning Lullaby

My current favourite song is "12:59 Lullaby" by Bedouin Soundclash. They're a really good Canadian band (as so many really cool musicians are), that sort of fuses reggae with indie rock. This song is the first release off their third album "Street Gospels," to be released in 2007. It's just such a wonderful song. Their vocalist Jay Malinowski is one of those singers whose voice just works so well for my ears - like Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie/The Postal Service, although the two have very different sounds. Ben's voice is angelic, while Jay's is more raw, yet equally sweet. But the way he sounds in this latest song just tugs at my heartstrings. This is the kind of song you watch the sun rise over the city to. Like the best of them, it is bitter-sweet. You're not quite sure if you're happy, or sad - most probably a little bit of both. It makes you yearn for something - it makes you miss with all your heart.

You can listen to "12:59 Lullaby" here.

"It’s suddenly early morning
The only sound is my breathing
As I lay awake not knowing
Where it will be I’m going
But I know
Time moves slow..."

  • hello Kuwaiti girl who doesn't look Kuwaiti. you repeat this line over and over again. So what? is this supposed to be a compliment? or something strange? I am a kuwaiti guy who looks a 20 different nationalities! does it make me cool? in your dictionary I guess it does.
ANyways. congrads on your MA, are you planning to do your PhD? and in what? are my questions too personal? if they r, bite me ;)

    Yours
Kuwaiti guy who looks nonkuwaiti,PhD candidate and loves teasing girls with nice bags and "other"

  • I find it so interesting how people get so apparently offended by things they read in someone's personal blog, and yet still feel compelled to come back over and over to keep reading.

To use your own phrase, "anonymous", BITE ME. First of all, I didn't even mention in my last post that I "don't look Kuwaiti"...I only mentioned that other people never think that I am. And not because I think it makes me "cool" but because it was relevant to the post. You are obviously a Kuwaiti guy with issues because you feel the need to deflect your own insecurities off others. Don't like what you read here? Don't read it. Plain and simple. I find it hard to believe that you're a PhD candidate while simultaneously still in a stage of your life where you like to "tease girls" - most mature men got over that by the time they hit high school.

Erzulie: Shakhbaaaaaar Sublime! Hadn't thought of them in years. (*Goes straight to Limewire to start downloading.*) :)

  • Did you ever say it was cool to look non-Kuwaiti??? Some people have really bad reading skills and then they rant about their own warped interpretation of their skim reading! Hmmmm... I also find it strange that people feel so comfortable using offensive language against people they do not even know who have done nothing to warrant it. Says a lot about what their life must be like... Ignore! Ignore!

I will try to hear the song you mentioned... How the tables have turned... Now the little sister keeps the big ones up to date with music :)

  • hello again,
I thought the idea of a blog is for people to read about your personal life and maybe comment on it, whether u like the commnent or not. Besides, who said I was offened? why don't you think of it in a positive way! someone is not kissing up to you and telling you what's wrong with you? or maybe besides being a cool-and-nonkuwaiti-looking-kuwaiti-girl you are miss perferct?.
To clarify things, this was the first time I read your blog, a friend told me about it.
hmm, moving on to the "issues" comment. What issues do I have Ms. pyschologist? if you only tell me about these issues. It might help me become a better person. All comments and tips are appreciated :) I am not afarid of critisism, ARE YOU?

At the end of my SHORT comment.. I would like to wish you the best of luck in your PhD. Just make sure you have a defined project and tasks before you start becuase this will give you a sense of direction and you will avoid wasting valuable time researching ideas ( I hope this little piece of advice is not offensive in any way)

P.S. raine what are you talking about? are you sure you read my comment?

  • First of all, your comment is too meaningless and incoherent to even warrant a reply, but I'm going to say one thing. Sure, you can say whatever you want in a comment, fine by me. But your comment was not relevant because it had nothing to do with either this post nor my last one, in which case it was just meant to be rude and offensive. And the fact that you are being so rude (twice, now) when it's the first time you read my blog, perfectly shows what your "issues" are. If you want to know what they are, go see a shrink. Not my job to inform you - although it is so transparent anyone can see it (and trust me, they do).

As for the "advice" on my PhD - no it's not offensive, but don't worry...I have been awarded one of the most competitive and prestigious scholarships in the United Kingdom that will pay for my entire three years, so I think I know what I'm doing.

Oh and, yes, I am Miss Perfect. It's a tough job but someone's gotta do it.

  • anon - The fact that you are so condescending in your advice to someone you do not know is proof positive that you simultaneously hold yourself in such high regard, whilst also reeking of insecurity. Your opinions of kleio are not valid in that 1. you do not know her and 2. you clearly did not read her post fully and therefore just cut and paste ideas together in your imagination. Kleio is being very polite. If this were my blog, I would tell you, in no uncertain terms, that your lack of intelligence (even WITH a defined project plan for a PhD -- yeah right!) disqulaifies you from reading the blog of someone as perfect as kleio. Criticism is not the issue... Rudeness is. Your tone was inflammatory from the start and it was unwarranted. Why don't you get your own blog -- you clearly love the sound of your own voice... Go for it. Don't try to big yourslef up by trashing people you don't know... It really is pathetic. People see through that kind of transparency. As a "PhD candidate" (hahahahahahahaha), haven't you learned that already? Most of us learned that in high school.

Oh, and I hope you do not find any of this offensive Mr. Perfect. I am sure that you can take it. Any ideas where you can take it smart boy?

  • Just turn off your anonymous option thingi.

    *holds back tongue*

  • Bah! It's not worth all this. That's why I've started moderating comments now, so that people don't hijack topics for their own reasons. As for turning off the anonymous comment thing - there are people I know who like to comment here who are not registered bloggers so I don't want to leave them out. Anyway, I can tell which anonymous commentators are which through their IP address from my statcounter.

  • BDW: I have only some episodes of Grey's Anatomy on TV, but have seen none from season 2 yet. I was hoping to watch both seasons on DVD but I never seem to have the time. Are they getting lame? It's OK - Patrick Dempsey is just so lovely to look at.

I know - if only people listened to the song maybe they would chill out and not lash out at other people over their own insecurities!

Anyway, as soon as I said that I can tell which anonymous commentator is which through their IP address/location and the time they posted their comment, that guy stopped commenting on my posts! LOL!

Today is my last day in Kuwait. I was just about to have a cup of coffee, and I swear I changed it to chai 7aleeb for your benefit. I don't usually drink milk with my tea/coffee, but I decided to go for it. And it is YUMMMMMY! Forgot how good chai 7aleeb can be. Especially since in London they always serve the milk chilled and then it makes your tea lukewarm and gross.

I hope you don't mind that I approved this comment with your E-mail address - I checked your profile and saw that you have the same E-mail address there so I figured it would be OK. Btw, my E-mail is q8kleio@gmail.com. But I check it about once a month! :)
